YLNI's High School Leadership Institute connects emerging professionals with community leaders to learn about various topics, including temperaments and interaction styles, interpersonal communications, networking and community engagement, and financial strength. High School Leadership Institute sessions also include tours of major downtown landmarks, to provide a better understanding of all that our city has to offer!

2020 CLASS SCHEDULE

High School Leadership Institute consists of a kick-off event and five class sessions that will be held at various meeting spaces in the Fort Wayne area. Attendance is mandatory at all sessions in order for the program to be deemed complete for a participant. Each session will have a local professional(s) speaking on a leadership-specific topic followed by an exclusive Fort Wayne experience at various venues and location around the city.

Kick Off Celebration

Date: Monday June 8, 2020 | 6:00p-7:30p (refreshments provided)
Location: The Philmore on Broadway | 2441 Broadway, Fort Wayne, IN 46807

What to Expect:

  • You will meet your fellow HSLI classmates for the first time, get acquainted to the YLNI, and learn more about the HSLI program details. We welcome your parents to join the celebration, all happening at the historic Philmore on Broadway!

Session 1: Interpersonal Communications

Date: Tuesday, June 9, 2020 | 9:00a-3:00p (lunch will be provided)
Location: Arts United Center | 303 E Main St, Fort Wayne, IN 46802

What to Expect:

  • You will gain an understanding of interpersonal skills and their importance at home, school, and especially, the workplace
  • You will learn how to connect with people -- through critical thinking and self-perception, through practicing effective communication strategies, through learning how to deal with conflict in a healthy way, and through learning how to communicate to our specific audience.

Session 2: Temperaments and Interaction Styles

Date: Wednesday, June 10, 2020 | 9:00a-3:00p (lunch will be provided)

What to Expect:

  • You will gain an understanding of your individual temperaments and how they affect others
  • You'll understand, respect, appreciate, and value the individual differences of people and how they create more effective outcome in a group dynamic.
  • You'll learn how to enhance your individual effectiveness through improving your relationships with others.

Session 3: Networking and Mentor-ship

Date: Monday, June 15, 2020 | 9:00a-3:00p (lunch will be provided)

What to Expect:

  • You’ll learn the importance and value of networking as a tool to meet people.
  • You’ll gain an understanding of the difference between a mentor and sponsor, and the value of having both in your professional life.
  • You’ll be presented with volunteer opportunities through local non-profit organizations!

Session 4: Financial Strength Date

Date: Tuesday, June 16, 2020 | 9:00a-3:00p (lunch will be provided)

What to Expect:

  • You’ll learn the what and the why behind the basics of personal finances.
  • The basic tools for long-term wealth and financial freedom will be discussed.

Session 5: YLNI Community Panel and Graduation

Date: Wednesday, June 17, 2020 | 4:30p - 7pm (dinner will be provided at 5:30pm)

What to Expect:

  • NEW for HSLI 2020 – the 2020 cohort will take part in a special community
    service project!
  • A panel of community leaders will discuss how to moving forward means giving back!
  • Learn from their personal and professional experiences and how to become engaged in the community, and why it is so important.
  • We’ll review the participants’ experiences with HSLI, including what you see for yourselves as future leaders of our community!
