IDA Purpose

The Inclusion, Diversity and Advocacy (IDA) Committee shall act as a conduit of influence through committee members sitting on a variety of community boards and committees. It is the mission of this committee to educate YLNI members about issues that affect the community, especially the young leader’s demographic. In keeping with this mission, the Inclusion, Diversity and Advocacy Committee reviews public policy issues, community initiative, and other pertinent issues and makes recommendations to the board of directors. In addition to education, its goals are the strengthen the relationship between our members and the community and public officials and create awareness of
legislation and advocate on behalf of our members.

Tough Talks

A YLNI talk series that creates space for community leaders of all ages and backgrounds to come together to have authentic conversations in a safe space about tough topics such as race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/gender norms, etc. in an effort to foster more inclusivity and understanding in our region. We seek to listen and understand because when we know better, we can do better.

Legislation

It is the responsibility of the IDA committee to monitor local, state, and federal issues watching for issues that impact the mission of attracting and retaining young professionals through leadership development, community impact, and social engagement. Once an issue or issues are found to impact YLNI’s mission, IDA researches and discusses the issue. In some instances, for issues that may require a survey of our membership and/or additional education for members, forums, or meetings may be held providing non-partisan information. IDA then analyzes and reviews the data and makes recommendations to the YLNI Board of Directors. The YLNI Board discuss the recommendations, weighs pros and cons of taking a stance and then votes on whether to accept the recommendations as submitted by the committee.

The IDA Committee will find organizations throughout NE Indiana who have Diversity and Inclusion committee and/or has a focus on Diversity and Inclusion to partner with. Ideally, a member from the IDA will serve on those committees or boars to report to YLNI initiatives other organizations are taking part in and where YLNI can best “fill in the gaps.”
